Our January Member of the Month is Kristin Johnson! Kristin works as a Marketing Coordinator at Innovate Marquette SmartZone & Invent@NMU. She recently moved to Marquette and wanted to find a way to connect and grow her network, as well as become more involved in the community.
When asked why she joined Connect Marquette Kristin said, “I initially learned of Connect Marquette back when it was 40Below but I will be the first to admit that I wasn’t a very active member. I’m originally from Gladstone and I was living in Chicago at the time. I always had a desire to move back to the U.P. so I signed up for the emails as a way of staying connected (virtually) to the community. I was on the hunt for the right job opportunity that could bring me back home so Connect Marquette allowed me to keep a pulse on things in the area.”
She goes on to say, “From meeting the members to learning about organizations sponsoring events, it helped me get a lay of the land. When I joined the Innovate Marquette & Invent@NMU team in October 2020, I knew I wanted to get more involved in the community. Outside of my family and co-workers, I didn’t really know a lot of people but Connect Marquette makes it so easy to build connections — socially and professionally. My husband and I officially became Marquette residents back in June which has allowed me to be more actively involved. I’ve had a lot of fun attending the events and making new friends.”
Kristin and her family recently purchased their first home and a pop-up camper, so she’s really into DIY and watching HGTV in her free time. She also likes to read, practice yoga, and go on road trips. She also loves all of the food trucks around Marquette, especially the Burger Bus. Connect with Kristin today!
